FAQs
Do you work with the family? We believe the best way to help a young person is to include the parent/s or caregivers where possible and appropriate. While there is confidentiality between the young person and the Youth Specialist, we will always take parents concerns on board as that gives insight as to what their young person may need.
Can I contact you during the week if my young person needs extra support?Yes! As part of our service, parents, caregivers, or the young person themselves may call or message for support between sessions.
Do you have an office? We have a cool place to meet with young people located in Takapuna. It's a relaxing space that's easy to find and close enough to cafe's so you have an excuse to relax and have some "me time" while we have our session.
Where are the appointments?90% of the young people I meet with, the session is done at my office in Takapuna. I do meet in other places from time to time, such as a local library, where there's enough sound to drown out the conversations we have, but not so loud that it takes away from the work we're doing. Wherever we meet the main criteria is that the young person feels safe.
Do you offer video sessions?I can provide video sessions, although it may take more time to build rapport with the young person. Nonetheless, if you are located outside of Auckland or if travel distance presents a challenge, I am willing to conduct sessions via video.
How long is a session? We have found the optimal length of time to meet with a young person is 55 minutes. This also allows just enough time to have a quick chat with you, the parents, either side of the session.
How often do we meet?To establish a strong, lasting relationship, we need to meet at least once a week. This gives the ability to build and maintain trust and stay up to date with what's happening in their life.
What if I miss a session? While we do ask that you prioritise these sessions, sometimes, things just happen that are out of your control. If there is less than 24 hours notice, we do need to invoice for the missed session.
